AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Hello, my name is Jennifer Atilano. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and now reside in Houston, Texas. I come from a large family and believe that because of the support I have from my family is what makes me the person I am today. I enjoy working with children and on my spear time I volunteer and substituting at schools to gain the experience of working with young children. I enjoy doing arts and crafts as well as dancing singing; which I feel this are great tools on keeping children entertained. Since I was young I have always dreamed on becoming a teacher because I enjoy teaching students and watching them grow and development learning skills that will help them succeed for their future.
My previous experience in the educational field is when I was in High school where I was involved in a vocational program for future educators. In this program I had to make lesson plans, grade assignments, and teach a course and other requirements as a teacher. I got the opportunity to teach seven grade, fifth, second, kindergarten and pre-k bilingual classes. On my spare time I volunteer at a pre-school and assists the teachers. I have also taught third grade bible study which help me with lesson planning and having to work with a diversity of students; which I really enjoyed and wish to continue. By substituting will provide me with the experience of Early childhood education and what to except when I become a teacher.
CAREER GOALS
My career goal is to become an elementary educator or even early childhood teacher. After accomplishing this career goal and gaining the proper knowledge and experience I would like to continue my education on obtaining a master's degree along with the certification and required credentials to be able to open my own private school.
PREFERRED AGE GROUP
There are two age groups that I would like to teach. I enjoy seeing young children learn and I love to teach and see the journey that they take from the beginning of the school year to the last day of school; therefore, my plans are to become an educator within the elementary grade levels and early childhood education. I love to dance and sing so I would like to teach the younger children. I believe at these stages of Pre-k and Kindergarten are very important in a child’s education because this is their foundation to what they need to know for their future. The first group that I chose to focus on is within the age group of three years to five years; where children are considered preschoolers. Children that are in preschool are developing their social, language and learning skills; which they are excited to explore, learn new material, ask questions and express their feelings. The second age group is children that are ages six to eight; where the students are learning and using their prior learning. Children are becoming more independent; improving their social, language and learning skills and using those skills outside the classroom.
Young children are growing and developmenting their fine, gross motor and social skills. It is important that we provide a variety of opportunities to the children to stretch their minds and bodies in order to have a healthy development. Children learn from what they are taught and each student brings their own personalities, strenghts and weakness to their learning ability.
